Community Organizing

Since its inception, Babaylanes has helped in establishing LGBTQI student organizations all over the country. This has been the organizationā€™s original mandate which was to replicate the ā€œBabaylan experienceā€ ā€” alluding to our student organizing root through the pioneering LGBTQI student organization, UP Babaylan. Babaylanes then facilitates a safe and learning environment through the annual LGBTQI Students Advocate for Rights and Inclusion (SARI) Network Conference formerly known as ā€œLGBTQI Students Network Conferenceā€ wherein emerging student organizations gather to consolidate action plans for the year.

Member Organizations

TheĀ SARI NetworkĀ is a coalition of over 30 university-based organizations dedicated to promoting inclusivity within their respective schools and advancing the broader fight for equality in the Philippines. These student-led groups collaborate with us to create safer, more inclusive academic environments while actively supporting our shared mission to advocate for human rights and equality for all.

2024 National LGBTQI STUDENT Conference

Rainbow Ecosystems:

Integrating Diversity in Nature and Identity for a Thriving Planet

The recent event successfully gathered LGBTQI student leaders to engage in a comprehensive learning experience aimed at strengthening their advocacy efforts and organizational sustainability. The participants deepened their knowledge on human rights advocacy, financial management, social media management, and resource mobilization, equipping them to ensure the continued success of their LGBTQI student organizations. This year the LGBTQI Student Network Conference was made possible because of the support of the Gerry Roxas Foundation under the INSPIRE program.

Celebrating Diversity and Empowering Future Leaders

The LGBTQI Student Network Conference, held on July 4-5, 2023, brought together student leaders from across the country for a dynamic two-day program focused on organizational development, policy advocacy, and movement building. The first day opened with participant introductions, followed by a roundtable discussion on the activities and advocacy efforts of various organizations. A workshop to brainstorm and design the network’s name and logo was conducted, followed by a lively solidarity night. Day two featured a session on TGNC policy lobbying led by Bryon Senga, and a comprehensive SOGIESC 101 Training of Trainers facilitated by Percival CendaƱa. The event culminated with the presentation and ratification of the network’s Constitution and By-Laws, followed by the distribution of certificates to the conference delegates.
